The Anganwadi Centre located in Ward No. 01 of Huplong Gram Panchayat under Jubrajnagar RD Block, Dharmanagar (North Tripura), is facing serious infrastructural challenges. According to local residents, the area in front of the centre along with its entrance transforms into a waterlogged pit during the rainy season, resembling a mini-pond and making access nearly impossible.
Despite repeated concerns raised by the community, the local authorities, ICDS officials, and relevant government departments appear indifferent to the issue.
As per government guidelines, Anganwadi Centres serve as critical hubs for maternal and child welfare in rural India, designed to fight malnutrition and provide early childhood care. The term Anganwadi itself translates to “courtyard shelter” a safe and welcoming space for village families. However, the current state of this centre starkly contradicts that vision, highlighting a glaring gap between policy and practice.
